North Country Cheviot Sheep Society
The sale of North Country Cheviot Hill sheep took place across two days at Lockerbie with females being sold on the first day of the sale, with fewer entries forward from last year a strong demand was met for quality. Registered gimmers reached £160 for a pen of 36 from Kelsocleugh Farming & the same good home topping the ewe lamb trade at £130. Draft ewes achieved a top of £125 for a pen of 40 from WN Douglas, Whitehope.
The second day had a large entry of rams brought forward, with a busy ringside & plenty interest in well bred sheep. The days top price came from the Hownam Grange pen of W & J Thomson, Lot 92 Hownam Grange W 15162 by Sorbietrees 4970 was purchased by Cheviot Farming Ltd to join the Elsdonburn flock. Closely followed at £5500 was Lot 134 Benger V 10004, first in the ring from George Irving, a 3 shear ram by Whitehope 2224 he joins the Phiilphaugh flock. Two rams acheived £5000, first in from WH Douglas Lot 13 Whitehope W 20548 by Glendale Rebel purchased by A Elliot, Bedshiel & Lot 192 Hartside Hill Warrior by Whitehope Phantom from Linhope Farming Partnership selling to Messrs Bridgewater & Potholm for the Esk flock.
The Hownam Grange pen continued with two more at £4500, Lot 73 Hownam Grange Xtraordinary, a shearling by Newbank Spitfire sold to W Dunlop & Son, Commonside & Lot 74 Hownam Grange War Lord by Newbank Spitfire also joins the Sorbietrees flock. Topping the Hethpool pen from W Elliot was Lot 211 Hethpool Warrior by Whitchesters Raptor, he goes home to Hownam Grange.
