Clitheroe Show & Sale Report

The Annual Show & Sale of North Country Cheviot Rams & females was held at Clitheroe Auction on Saturday 9th October 2021, with a large crowd of onlookers Mr Nigel Barrett, WJ Flock judged the pre-sale show.

Topping the days trading was a park type shearling ram, Lot 381 North Valley B 02900 sired by Pengroes Wolf from John Wood & family, he broke the previous centre record to sell for 1600gns (£1680), the family's rams were well sort after with another ram selling to 800gns (£840) & their pen of 7 averaging £745.50.

Taking the champion rosette for the Park rams was a shearling from the Nun Cote Nook flock of Keith Stones, Lot 330 Nun Cote Nook Bonfire sired by Kinaldy Vangelis later sold for 1100gns (£1155), standing reserve champion in this section was Lot 388 Hill Top X5 sired by Allanshaws Vanilla Ice from Tom Bell, he also sold well for 650gns (£682.50). Lot 379 Ridgebec Bounty Hunter sired by Synton Xplosion who stood in 2nd place in the show went on to sell fro 1000gns (£1050) for new breeder Rebecca Robinson, going home with the judge.

In the Hill section, top price went to Lot 301 Sykes Acheiver sired by Castle Grant V 04271 from Stephen & Helen Robinson, he sold for 1000gns (£1050). The Hill Champion from Jim Thomson's Kelso flock, Lot 327 Kelso A 13087 sired by Kelso Va va voom took the next highest price in this section, 900gns (£945). with plenty more more selling at 500-700gns demand for the hill type was greater than in previous years.

Females also sold well again here, with a larger entry forward then seen in previous years.
Top price was paid for a Gimmer Shearling from Keith Stones's Nun Cote Nook flock, £420 his pen also sold to £380 & £310 again for gimmer shearlings.
Pairs of two shear ewes from William & Laura Thomson, Hownam Grange sold to £220 & Ewe Lambs topped at £190 for the pre-sale champion from Steven & Claire Turnbull. Jethart.
