Lockerbie Hill Sales 2022

The Annual Sale of North Country Cheviot Hill Females & Rams took place over two days at Lockerbie Auction on Tuesday 20th & Wednesday 21st September 2022.

Females were on the first day, with draft ewes topping at £300 from Messrs Iredale, Greenbank whihc was sold for charity, next best at £200 twice, first for a pen of 30 from WD Allen, Stouphill & again for a pen of 40 from Messrs Flintoff, Sourhope.

W & J Thomson, Hownam Grange sold a pen of 10 gimmers for the top price of £330 heading to the Thrimby flock of Matty Blair & Murray Craig, with another group of 6 selling to £245, following this was two pens of 45 from Messrs Flintoff, Cocklawfoot at £300 who also received £280 & £270 all heading to new homes in Yorkshire.

Topping the ewe lamb trade was agin the Allen family, Stouphill with their best draw of 25 lambs selling to £150 from Messrs Swift, Kendal, this was followed bya couple of pens at £135 from Kelsocleugh Farming, Kelso & Messrs Wilson, Newbank.

With no pre-sale show for the Hill Rams it was left to the bidders & buyers to pick the best & it didnt take long in to the sale to find it, DI Rock Farming's first in Hethpool Banger sired by Hethpool X-Rated sold in a two way split for £18000 to D Baillie, Calla & Bennett partners, Plasucha. The same good home had another at £8000 Hethpool Bam Bam, a son of Sorbietrees Victor joins the Whitehope flock of WN Douglas.
The second best price came in the last fifty rams to be sold from JM Elliot's flock, Woodside Bourbon, a Inkstack Vodka Shot son heads home to Hethpool with DI Rock Farming for £16000. The Elliot's made their purchase early in the day, paying £10000 for Attonburn Bitter Sweet sired by Heatherhope Vicious Stu, with the same breeders also receiving £4500 this time for Attonburn Banshee son of Elsdonburn 4201 he joins the Cocklawfoot flock of Messrs Flintoff.
A second at £8000 this time for a 3 shear from WN Douglas, Whitehope Asterix sired by Suisgill Vanguard was knocked down to Messrs Flintoff, Sourhope. Four rams acheived £7000, first from Messrs Wilson, Newbank Blizzard a Hethpool Vandal son, twice for George Irving, both Hethpool Wattie sons, Benger Beirnie & Benger Barbarian & lastly for welsh breeder Gareth Price, Cymraeg B 02553 sired by Hownam Grange Valiente all staying within the Scottish Borders.
With trade for rams remaining strong through the entire sale, more rams forward but sold well to average £1610.
