The Annual Show & Sale of In-lamb Ewes & Ewe Hoggs returned to Lockerbie on Saturday 12th February 2022, following a year's absence due to Covid restrictions in 2021. The quality was back & those arriving intent on buying a Northie were not left disappointed with what was on show, with sheep heading to new homes from Caithness to Cornwall & most places in between.
The pre-sale show was judged by Cameron Jackson, Future flock - new to the breed but with a keen eye for quality he selcted his Champion from the Hightae consignment of Jennifer Cowan, Lot 23 a Ewe Hogg sired by Wandylaw X-Factor & out of a homebred ewe by Humbleheugh Wham Bam. She sold later for the top price of the day £1500 & joins the judges Future flock in Renfrewshire.
Reserve Champion went to the 1st placed Ewe from W & J Thomson, Hownam Grange, A homebred ewe sired by Soutra The Boss, she sold in lamb to Hownam Grange Clynelish & heads to Wales to join Rhys Roberts Glanaber flock.
Taking top honours in the Hill section was a Ewe sired by Heatherlea Shaft from Kelsocleugh Farming, Kelso she joins the Sykes flock of Stephen & Helen Robinson, Clitheroe along with the top price hill entry, again from Jim Thomson's Kelso flock this homebred gimmer was sired by Hethpool Walter, both sell in lamb to Rawburn X37633 & sold for £700 & £1400 respectively.
