Lairg Sale 2023

The Annual Sale of North Country Cheviot Hill Rams took place on Monday 2nd October 2023 at Lairg Auction Mart, followed by the females on Tuesday 3rd October.

With no show it's up to the buyers to decide and they chose Attonburn Cocaine, a Badanloch Wildfire son from Bob & Becca Rennie, out of a Newbank Vintage sired ewe he sold to Ted Fox, St Johns Kirk for the days top price of £14000. Closely following this was his twin brother, Attonburn Crackhead who joins the Coul flock ran by Allan MacDirmid for £11000. Bob & Becca's Mowhaugh pen also caught the eye of Ted Fox who purchased their first in, Mowhaugh Centurian sired by the homebred tup Attonburn Achillies for £11000 also. Another from this pen, Mowhaugh Constricter this time by Attonburn Antidote sold to W Robertson, Borgie for £5500. it total the pair sold 8 tups to average £5975.
Earlier in the sale, WD Allen's Stouphill flock secured £12000 for Stouphill C 25342 sired by the homebred Stouphill Admiral who previously sold for £14000 he joins the Auldallen flock of Bob Adam near Forfar, this home averaged of £4410 for five sold.
A third at £11000 came for a two shear from Red Robertson's Inkstack flock, Inkstack Crask sired by Langdale Lets Be Having You, he heads south to the Housesteads flock of Kit Acton in Northumberland. The same home sold a three shear at £7200, Inkstack B 08549 a Badanloch V 10314 son was purchased by Andrew Elliot for his Balnakeil flock with a final tup at £4200 Inkstack Cool Teddyboy sired by St Johns Kirk Awesome joins the Achentoul flock & gave Inkstack the adys top average of £7466 for three sold.
Early in the sale Martyn Cook sold his first in from the Dorrery flock for £8000 to Achentoul Farms, followed by two sons of Langdale Lucky Lad acheiving £7000 & £6000 selling to Neil Mackay, Kirktomy & Stephen Robinson, Sykes respectively. All in they sold eight rams averaging £4214.29.
Wilma Robertson's Borgie flock topped at £5200 for Borgie C 02059, a Bailnacraobh Bizzaz son who took the eye of Borders based Pete Tweedie, Buchtrig, two more bred the same way sold fro £4600 to David Renwick, Keppoch & £4200 to Martyn Cook, Dorrery. Top price in the Badanloch pen came for a three shear sired by langdale Wizard, badanloch B 13416 sold to Ted Fox, St John Kirk for £5000, with a second bred the same way going to the same home for £3500 & a third selling for £4800 to Oli Harrison, Aimhaugh, Cumbria.
Ally Robertson's Tournaig C 00642 topped his pen at £5000 selling again to Achentoul managed by Murdo MacDonald, with a second, Tournaig C 00634, bred the same way selling for $4200 to WN  Douglas, Whitehope.
Woodside Cocktail sold late in the day for Michael & Lillias Elliot, this Inkstack Vodka Shot son joins the Welbeck Scottish Farms, Ousdale flock for £4800 while Woodside Cocky lad sired by Woodside Abracadabra sold to DI Rock, Hethpool for £4200 & Woodside C 18741, a Woodside Adventure son joins the Attonburn flock of Bob & Becca Rennie for £4000.

Females

Females were the second ady of the sales & met a good trade throughout, gimmers sold to a top of £560 per head for a pen of three from Martyn Cook, Dorrery, followed by £380 & £270 for gimmers from the same home, while Badanloch received £460 for their top pen, followed by £270.
Draft ewes topped at £290 from Badanloch, this was closely followed by £250, £190, £180 & £175 all from Achentoul Farms.
