NI Club Sale 2023

The 5th Annual N.I Club North Country Cheviot show and sale was held on Friday 1st September 2023 with a packed ringside and large interest online via marteye.

The Pre-Sale Show was ably judged by Aberdeenshire based breeder, Andrew Polson, Smerlie. Finding his Hill type 1st place ram in the Manyburns flock of Sinclair Armstrong, Manyburns Dunkirk an Inkstack V 05833 son who later sold for £525.

In the Park section, Norman Robinson's Benrafton Drivesmecrazy, a son of Allanshaws Xathus received the Champion rosette & top price in the sale - £4410 a new record price for the Northern Ireland Sales, he was purchased in a two way split between DN Campbell, Bardnaclavan & J Smith, Upper Cornquoy & heads over the water into Scotland. Desmond Robinson sold the next big priced Park tup, Glen D 03907 sired by Soutra Ali sold for £2940, this was closely followed by Castleview Dancer from Murnion Livestock, this Allanshaws Brightspark son sold for £2625. The second placed shearling ram from James & Kathryn Rowan, Ballintogher Designer also by Allanshaws Xanthus sold for £2205 & a third the same way bred, this time from Norman Robinson;s Summerhill flock, Summerhill Denzel sold for £2100.

Females
Trade peaked at £1837.50 for the 1st placed Park gimmer from Orla & Thomas MacAllister's Oakwood flock, she was sold online with the 2nd placed gimmer from Norman Robinson's Benrafton flock also selling online, this one for £1575.
Park Ewe lambs met a strong trade too, Alastair Armstrong's Reserve Champion placed Stragole ewe lamb by Carruthers Birra Moretti sold for £1102.50. John Graham sold his 2nd & 3rd placed Ross ewe lambs for £504 & £840 respectively.
Hill type Gimmers topped at £315 for Sam Miskelly's pre-show Hill Champion, with his second placed gimmer selling for £231. Hill Ewe Lambs sold to £294 for the 1st prize Manyburns ewe lamb from Sinclair Armstrong.

Groups of Hill gimmers from Sam Miskelly sold to £185 for the first prize pen, with the second place going for £175 and third place sold for £180 with other pens selling steadily from £170 to £185.

Groups of Park Type gimmers sold to a top of £410 for Gareth Henderson’s third priced pen of gimmers selling and Gareth’s first prize pen sold for £350, the second prize pen from Thomas McAllister sold for £310.

Groups of Hill Ewe lambs sold to a top of £145 for the second placed pen of lambs from Adrian McSorley with his first prize pen selling for £135 and the third placed pen from Gerald O’Neill sold for £110, Hill ewe lambs met a steady trade from £110 to £140.

Park ewe lamb groups topped at £200 for the first prize pen from John Graham’s Ross flock selling and the second prize pen from Peter Davey selling for £120.

Cheviot Mules

Cheviot mule ewe lambs were a good trade with prices topping for the first prize pen from Desmond Robinson selling for £230 and his second pen at £190 and another pen from Desmond selling for £175.The second prize pen from Allister McNeill sold for £165 with other pens £155 and £150 (twice). Many other pens sold to a good trade ranging from £100 to £145.

A black Cheviot Mule was offered for Charity auction by Ian Young, Coleraine this stylish ewe lamb was purchased by Jack Maxwell, Upperlands Co. Londonderry for £260.
