Lockerbie Hill Sale 2024

The Annual Society Sale of North Country Cheviot Tups and Females took place at Lockerbie Market on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th of September 2024.

The females took centre stage on the first of the two-days sales, with WD Allen, Stouphill topping the draft ewe trade at £242 for a pen of 63 4 crops, these head in to Wales with Christine & Ffloyd Lewis, Brynowen, Caersws. Following these for a pen of 21 registered 5 crop ewes was Hugh and Sandy Wilson's Newbank flock, these also head to Walesd this time with MS Williams, Lower Gwernerin, Powys.
Gimmers topped at £295 for a pen of 50 from Pete Tweedie, Buchtrig, another buyer from Wales, Messrs Sevenoaks, Abergavenny. R & C Flintoff, Cocklawfoot and Bob and Becca Rennie, Attonburn both took £290 for their pens of 25 and 15 respectively, selling to Messrs Meiklem and Son, Kelty and R and I Watson, Kirkcudbright.
Ewe lambs were slightly down on the year, topping at £380 for two black lambs from WD Allen, Stouphill selling to F Barbour, Newark Farm, Sanquhar. WD Allen also had £190 for a pen of 19 selling to MC Roberts, Myfyrian Farm, Gwynedd. Attinburn then followed this with two pens of 25 selling for £170 and £160 respectively to RJ Lund, East Clough, Sedbergh and B Collings, Tredwen Barton, Cornwall.

The second day was the turn of the tups, matching thre breed record price and setting a new centre record at £28000 was Whitehope Dark Knight from Norman & David Douglas, sired by Whitehope Batman he heads north to join the Dorrery flock of Martyn Cook. The same home had another two at £5500, Whitehope D 32790 a Susigill Vanguard son selling to R & M McIntosh, Brothwickwater and Whitehope D 32793 this time an Attonburn Xotic son he heads to Kelso to join the Hownam Grange flock of W & J Thomson. in total 14 tups sold to avergae £4314.

Two tups realised £12000, firstly from Gillesbie Farms, Gillesbie Dilema sired by the homebred Gillesbie A 27793 joins the Esk flock of Messrs Bridgewater & Wood and next from George Irving, Benger Dambuster an Attonburn Apollo son who goes home to Girvan with Ian Walker, Altricane.

A total of four tups reached £10000, Calla Donald from David Ballie's Lanark based flock sired by Hownam Grange Almighty moves home to Biggar with Jen Craig, Normangill. Bob and Becca Rennie's Attonburn flock sold two Hethpool Xceed sons, Attonburn Dynamic and Attonburn Draco to Andrew Elliot, Bedshiel and Ian Hepburn, North House. lastly at this money came Altricane Dynomite from Ian Walker, a son of Attonburn All Night Baby he joins the Hethpool flock of DI Rock, Northumberland. The Altricane flock received £8000 for another bred the same way, Altricane Dynamic sold to R Adam & son, Auldallan leaving them with the days top average of £4983 for 6 sold.

WD Allen, Stouphill received £9000 for their pen leader, Stouphill D 26058 a son of Badanloch Tip Top Tup jons the Philiphaugh Estate flock managed by Alan Cowens, while Portmore Dynamo from CM Reid received the same money for a Raehills Apollo son in the final pen of the day selling to JM Elliot, Woodside.

Breeders tups met with big demand with 73 tups selling over £2000 and a further 128 tups receiving between £1000 and £2000, leaving plenty of tups at handy money. 378 tups sold of those forward with a 93% clearance throughout the whole sale.
