North Country Cheviot Sheep Society
The Annual Show and Sale of Rams took place at Builth Wells on Monday 23rd September 2024 and was judged this year by well known borders breeder, Mr Alan Cowens, Philiphaugh.
The champion came from regular consignors to the Bulith Ram Sales, Mr Blair Cockburn, Kingside having travelled down from Biggar, Kingside E 22162 sired by Gilston Xylophone later sold for the top price of £2100 to Aled Jones, Penbache. Taking the reserve honours and winner of the Williams & Goodwin Cup for Best Bred in Wales was Lot 1264 BB Extreme from Ben Baker, a son of Sebay Buccaneer, who was purchased in 2021 for £5000, he sold for £1785.
In the Hill section, Champion was awarded to Lot 1175 from Tomos Ellis, Hiraethog E 05592 who sold for £795.
Overall a smaller entry forward for the sale, 83 Park type and 5 Hill type, meant demand was strong with trade getting dearer as the sale progressed. 100 % clearance of those forward in both sections with Parks averaging £719.25 for 83 and Hills £472.50 for 5 sold.
