Dingwall Hill Ram Sale

Dingwall & Highland Marts – Annual Sale of North Country Cheviot Hill Tups

A busy ringside from start to finish ensured a buoyant trade at the annual sale of North Country Cheviot Hill tups at Dingwall & Highland Marts, where 650 tups sold to average £930.

Judging the pre-sale show was Neil Montgomery, Ose, who found his Champion in Farquhar Renwick’s Strathcaniard pen. The winning tup, sired by the noted Allanshaws Ben Nevis—who has already sold sons to £20,000 this year—went on to make £5,500, selling late in the day to Pat Wilson Farms, Lochrosque. The Strathcaniard pen continued their strong run, with two more tups making the same money—one heading to Coul Estate, and the other south to David Baillie’s Calla flock, Lanark.

Reserve Champion was a four-shear from Hugh Mackenzie, Badanloch—Balmacara Class Act—which realised £1,200 and travels to Phil and Amy Jones’ Clytha flock in Wales.

Topping the sale at £8,000 were regular consignors Roderick & Lewis Runciman, Allanshaws, with their first in the ring—Allanshaws Everest, a two-shear by Philiphaugh Xcitable out of an Inkstack Tima ewe. He was knocked down in half shares to Messrs Sutherland, Brackside, and D.N. Campbell & Son, Campbells.

The Allanshaws pen enjoyed another strong day, selling six two-shears to average £5,400, all sired by Philiphaugh Xcitable. Allanshaws Emerald made £6,800 and heads home to Iain Mackay’s Torloisk flock, Mull, while Allanshaws Empire and Allanshaws Eastwood each sold for £5,000 to Mackenzie, Craiglands, and Polson, Aest Burn, respectively.

Also in the money was Mill House Designer from Andrew Campbell’s Caithness-based flock, who has already stood Reserve Male Champion at the National Show and Male Champion at Caithness Show earlier this year. He realised £7,500, selling to Messrs Dunlop, Commonside.

The MacRaes’ Kintail flock achieved £6,200 for Kintail Eilean Donan, another Ben Nevis son, purchased by the Clebrig flock, Altnaharra.

Late in the day, Michael Kirk’s Hollandmake Egor, a son of Inkstack Cool Teddyboy, sold for £6,000 to join the Coul Estate flock.

Averages - 630 Tups sold to average £930.
