North Country Cheviot Sheep Society
The annual two-day sale of North Country Cheviot Hill females and tups took place at Lockerbie on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd September 2026. With no pre-sale show, buyers were left to make their own selections from the quality stock forward.
Females met a strong demand on the opening day, topping at £1,050 for a pair of gimmers from Bob and Becca Rennie’s Attonburn flock. The same home followed this with a smart trio at £650.
Attonburn also led the draft ewe trade, with a pen of ten ewes selling for £400.
A smaller entry of ewe lambs met with a mixed reception, although the best pen of ten from W.D. Allen’s Stouphill flock attracted £225.
The second day belonged to the tups, which met a blistering trade for the very best forward, with no fewer than six reaching five-figure sums.
Leading the way at £25,000 was Whitehope Freedom Fighter from Norman and David Douglas. Sired by Bedshiel Champion, he remains local, joining Andrew Elliot’s Bedshiel flock.
Early in the sale, John Blackhall’s Brachmont flock secured £15,000 for Brachmont F 07394, a son of Dalrachie Campbell. He was knocked down to Bob and Becca Rennie, Attonburn. The same home then received £12,000 for Brachmont Fury, sired by Stouphill Admiral, who was purchased at Lairg for £14,000 in 2021. He heads home to Huntlywood with John Elliot. Selling six tups in total, Brachmont achieved an impressive average of £5,766.
Three further tups reached £10,000. First was Auldallan F 12523, a son of Achentoul Avicii, another ram purchased at Lairg in 2021, from Bob and Andrew Adam, New House of Glamis. He stays in the Borders, joining the Whitehope flock.
Matching that price was Whitehope Forget Me Not, a son of Whitehope Dark Knight (sold in 2024 for £28000) from the Norman & David's pen, who was knocked down to David and James Rock, Hethpool.
Completing the trio was Attonburn Ferdinand from Bob and Becca Rennie, sired by Badanloch Xtra Special. He joins Jim Wood’s Esk flock at Langholm.
Two further tups sold for £9,000, both purchased by Ian and Catherine Hepburn for their North House flock at Hawick. Woodside Famous, sired by Attonburn Bitter Sweet ,who himself made £10000 when sold in 2022, came from Michael and Lillias Elliot - a personal best for the flock. While Hownam Grange Fireball, a son of North House X 22281, was consigned by the Thomson family and also gave them a new flock best.
