The weather came good for the second day of the Royal Welsh Show 2023 & the North Country Cheviot Park classes were held in sunshine on the Tuesday morning, our judge, Mr Alan Simpson, Cairnside havig travelled down from Caithness was presented with a hugh entry of sheep, most impressively 32 gimmer shearlings were forward. The crowds watching enjoyed the spectical of such a big class & in our 40th year of Northie classes at the show it just goes to prove how popular the breed has become in Wales.

Alan worked his way through the judging with considered effort, with such big classes he made sure all the sheep got their chance & eventually found his overall breed champion from D & L Hughes, Beudy Glass, a homebred Gimmer Shearling out of a homebred ewe by Longoe Willie Beeb & sired by Eithinog Xavi. Taking the next top spot was the 3 Shear tup Sebay Buccaneer sired by Smerlie Xtreme who was purchased in 2021 for £5000 at the Caithness Sale by Ben Baker, BB who brought him out. Reserve female was awarded to a homebred 3 shear Brynowen ewe out of a Hownam Grange ewe & sired by Humbleheugh X 17684 from Ffloyd Lewis, Brynowen on his first time showing NCC at the Royal Welsh Show. Katty Davies & Dafyyd Owen scooped the reserve male honours with a homebred ram lamb, Pen Y Bont Exceptional out of a homebred ewe by Smerlie Archie & sired by Wester Xemplelar.

Congratualtions must go to all exhibitors, it was fantastic to see som many new faces & such a big show of Northies forward.
